Echinococcus multilocularis

The Echinococcosis (E. multilocularis) is an infection caused by the fox tapeworm. In Europe the fox tapeworm (E. multilocularis) is the host of the alveolar Echinococcosis, a life-threatening worm infection for humans.

Entamoeba histolytica

Entamoeba histolytica (amoebic dysentery) is a human-pathogenic protozoan and is one of the most common pathogens in developing countries, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. Each year approximately 50 Million people become infected and 100,000 die as a result of the infection. The pathogens are transmitted in the faecal-oral way. The incubation period is very variable and may take from some days to months and years.

Leishmania infantum

Leishmania occurs globally in the tropes and subtropics and also in mediterranean areas. The transmission happens by the bite of sand flies.

There are 3 types of Leishmania. The inner (visceral) Leishmania settles in the organs. The pathogens are L. donovani, in Europe L. infanctum. The cutaneous Leishmania attacks only the skin. The pathogens are L. tropica major, L. tropica minor, L.- tropica inflantum and L- aethiopica. Leishmania attacks next to the skin also the mucous membrane. The pathogen is L. brasiliensis.

Taenia solium

The pork tapeworm (Taenia solium) is a parasitic living worm in the intestines of humans.

Porks serve as an intermediate host. Experimentally, also other mammals may be infected. Also the human can serve as an intermediate host. If the human serves as intermediate host the fins especially settle on the fascias from sceletal muscles, diaphragm, larynx, heart, lymph glands or the brain. These parasites trigger headache, increased cerebral pressure, neurological illnesses and meningitis.

Toxocara canis

The Toxocariasis is an infectious disease which is caused by the migration from larves of the worm Toxocara in organs and tissues.

Infected dogs and cats defecate the eggs by the feces. The infection of humans takes place by the absorption of the eggs from the environment or by the direct contact with infected animals. Toxocara is spread globally.
